Community Easter Egg Scramble

Thistle Lodge assisted a group from Wesley United Church to organize and finance an Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the community.  Over a thousand youngsters participated each year for the last five years picking up 30 000 candy eggs and having fun.

Service clubs serving the community

Amherstburg Echo — The role service clubs play in the community have received some attention in the past week. The Town of Amherstburg accepted the Rotary Club's donation of a historical looking clock for the parkette between the Echo building and the former Navy Yard Restaurant. While the town will pump up to $5,000 into the project for such things as footings and installation, the Rotarians will raise anywhere from $26,000 to $30,000 for the clock itself. The Rotary benefits because it will come at a time when Rotarians celebrate the club's 100th anniversary but the town stands to benefit from the addition of another piece to the historic image puzzle.

On Saturday, it was learned the Masons will pick up the fundraising ball to help keep the Easter Egg Hunt going. They will look to other service clubs in the community to help raise the necessary funds to keep the event alive. The Easter Egg Hunt has become a nice community event where hundreds of kids from ages 1 to 10 can come out and get some Easter goodies and parents can enjoy watching it from the sidelines.
