Grade 1 Bicycle Helmet Program

In the photograph Masons from Thistle Lodge present new bicycle helmets to grade one students of St. Joseph School in River Canard.  Thistle Masonic Lodge No. 34 sponsored the program, which is now in its fourth year.  At left in the photo, a Constable from Amherstburg Police Services answers questions on bike safety.

About 330 grade one students in Amherstburg will be a little safer riding their bikes this summer thanks to the efforts of Thistle Masonic Lodge No. 34.  The Lodge provided bicycle helmets to all grade one students at Amherstburg area schools.

Our message to the youngsters is that if they already have a helmet, which many of them will, they can share this one with their brothers or sisters, their parents or with a friend. We encourage parents to set an example for their children, "do as I do".

The Masons provide helmets to grade one students at Stella Maris, St. Joseph's, St. Bernard’s, St. Theresa’s Catholic Schools, école St-Jean Baptiste (french language school) and Amherstburg, Malden Central and Anderdon Public Schools.  The helmets were obtained with the assistance of the Amherstburg Canadian Tire store.
