H. Lester Hamilton's 90th
H. Lester Hamilton, a one-time Amherstburg Reeve and Essex County councilor, will celebrate his 90th birthday on January 26.
In addition to his elected service as a town and regional councilor, Mr. Hamilton also served on the Public Utilities Commission, and as Town Foreman.
He opened Hamilton Insurance and Real Estate in 1939, in an office above the Bank of Montreal. The business later moved to 73 Murray Street, where it exists to this day. Mr. Hamilton was joined in that business by his grandson, Jamie Brandie.
Mr. Hamilton is also the oldest living Past Master of the Masonic Thistle Lodge, Number 34. He is the second son of Captain Harry Hamilton and Mary Jane (nee Goodchild). Mr. Hamilton has two children, nine grand children and ten great-grandchildren.

W.S. Golden Dies Suddenly
Death came suddenly to William S. Golden, Sunday as his family was gathering at his home to celebrate his 60th birthday. Mr. Golden was in the best of health and spirits until he and his brother Paton came into the house after doing the chores and he complained of being ill. Death came soon afterwards and was a great shock and sorrow to his family and his many friends. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Golden (Margaret Callam), members of two prominent pioneer families of this area. Mr. Golden was a past master of Thistle Lodge No. 34, A.F. & A.M., Amherstburg.
Surviving are his widow, Nell Hyatt, formerly of Wheatley; a son, Grant, Anderdon; three brothers, Allan and Harry of Harrow, and Paton, St. Thomas; a sister, Mrs. Glen Lypps (Belle), Harrow; and five grandchildren.
Rev. J.A. Walker officiated at the funeral service at the Sutton Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery with the following acting as pallbearers, Herbert and David Pettypiece, Hazen Imeson, Robert Craig, Thomas Bezaire and Glen Carnahan.
