J.A. Patten leaves today, (Friday) for Regina, N.W.T. where he has been appointed to a permanent position in the Lands Title Office, Department of the Interior, under Hon. Clifford Sifton. Last (Thursday) evening the brethren of Thistle Lodge, of which Mr. Patten is a P.M., gathered in the lodge room, and he was made the recipient of a very complimentary address and a Past Master's jewel. Mr. Patten's health has been anything but satisfactory for a long time and it is hoped that the change of climate will prove beneficial to him in that way. He will not take his family out there until later. He has been a resident of this town for nearly a quarter of a century, and carries with him the best wishes of a large circle of friends for future prosperity.
Obituary, Amherstburg Echo, February 6, 1925
J.A. Patten, senior deputy register in the Regina Land Titles office, died yesterday at Hollywood, California at the advanced age of 76 years. Mr. Patten left Regina nearly two weeks ago with his wife to make the journey to Los Angeles in easy stages. He had only been in the California city for a week when death came. He had been in failing health for some time and had been granted five months leave of absence to recuperate. Entering the Land Titles Office in 1903 when he came to Regina from his home town of Amherstburg, Ontario, Mr. Patten secured promotion until in the summer of 1923 he was made deputy registrar in succession to the late John Franks. His work at the Lands Title Office stamped him as a conscientious and valued public official. Mr. Patten is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. R. Tucker And Mrs. A.E. Cook, both of Regina. He was a past master of the A.F. & A.M. and was an honourary member of the senior Wascana Lodge in the city.
