Chief
Tecumseh
Our
oral tradition tells us that Chief Tecumseh sat in Adoniram Lodge (latter to become
Thistle Lodge No. 34) with officers from Fort Malden.
We have been unable to come up with any documentation. However, it seems quite possible that the highly
respected Chief would be brought into the lodge as a further bond of friendship with the
British Garrison. Tecumseh definitely was a
resident of the Amherstburg area during and prior to the War of 1812.
"The
late Rev. Mr. Falls in making an enquiry concerning it said that Jonas Fox, son of the
late Capt. Fox, told him that he often heard his father say that Tecumseh frequently met
with the brethren and sat in old Adoniram lodge, and that the old chief had a great deal
of reverence for Masonic work."
