Established in 1849, Thistle is the oldest lodge in Ontario west of the Niagara peninsula. However, Masonry in Amherstburg dates back to 1801 with the establishment of Adoniram Lodge. It was abruptly closed in 1812 with the advance of American forces on the British garrison at Fort Malden. Masonry in this part of Canada West remained dormant for 38 years until the formation of Thistle Lodge.
Thistle Lodge has a rich history, some of which is available on their website http://thistle.eriemasons.org/
Thistle Lodge today supports the Amherstburg community in many ways: bursaries for high school graduates who have faced adversity, bicycle helmets for every Grade 1 child, free accommodation for the local food bank and free income tax preparation for seniors, low-income earners and new Canadians are just a few.
View their website for details and other examples of their charity.
The good times roll once again at this annual mid-winter social event. The door prize this year is a laptop computer. For tickets please contact any lodge officer.
